I have a Raspberry Pi 5 (8 GB) that I bought in September 2024. It is installed in an Argon NEO NVMe case with a 512 GB SSD. I had Raspberry Pi OS installed, along with Home Assistant running alongside it, and everything worked perfectly until a few days ago.
I then decided to switch to Ubuntu using Raspberry Pi Imager. Before doing so, I went into raspi-config to change the boot order. I first tried to update the bootloader, but the update failed. That was the beginning of all my problems. After that, the Pi would only show a black screen on boot.
I suspected that I needed to force a bootloader update or recovery. I therefore performed an EEPROM recovery using Raspberry Pi Imager and a microSD card. I saw the green screen during the process, followed by a black screen with the green LED blinking indefinitely. After this operation, I could see the red/white Raspberry Pi screen with some information at boot, but nothing happened after that.
I then tried the following:
flashing another microSD card and a USB flash drive (both successfully),
removing the Raspberry Pi from the NEO case (and removing the SSD as well),
booting with different operating systems from Raspberry Pi Imager,
testing two different USB flash drives,
testing two different microSD cards,
trying two different displays,
suspecting an HDMI issue and checking whether the green LED reacted to keyboard input.
None of these attempts were successful.
At this point, my Raspberry Pi is stuck in the following state: it boots, I see the red/white screen with some information while the green LED is blinking, then the screen turns black and the green LED remains solid.
Could someone from the community please help me understand what is happening and how I might fix this issue?
