I have a Raspberry Pi 5 that I have been experiencing issues with when remoting in via SSH. This "remoting is" is on the same gigabit LAN network. I have no issues with any other devices on this network (and there are quite a few). The issue is that SSH will all of a sudden freeze up. All typing suddenly stops and the system will just sit there for a few seconds to much longer. I can use the arrow keys to cycle through previous commands and the activity will just stop and not accept any input and not continue to cycle even if pressing the arrow keys in either direction. As you can imagine this is extremely frustrating and I would like to find the solution.
I do not experience any issues when I am using the system directly connected to the Pi "console" (using a keyboard and monitor directly connected to the RPi). The sytem performs flawless when not using an SSH connection where the ethernet cable is plugged into the on-board ethernet port.
I have done quite a bit of troubleshooting and definitely come to the conclusion that this seems to be limited to the system when plugged into the on-board ethernet port. If I plug a USB ethernet adapter into the USB 3 port then I do not have the issue. If I connect via Wi-FI then I do not have the issue.
I have tried using Armbian, Ubuntu, Kali Linux, and the official Raspberry Pi 64 bit minimal (no desktop) OS. All of the are exhibiting the same behavior.
I have tried setting UseDNS no in the sshd_config file. I set UsePAM to no. I uncommented ListenAddress 0.0.0.0 so that SSH would only be listening on IPv4. I have used DHCP IP's, static IP's. Nothing seems to help when using the on-board NIC.
I have searched high and low and I have not been able to find a solution to the issue.
Please let me know your thoughts, solution suggests, etc.
Thanks!
