I am using a fresh install of Trixie on a Pi 4. Because of problems with WayVNC (a post to follow), I have used raspi-config to select Wayland option W1 (Openbox window manager with X11 backend). I should therefore be using RealVNC server. The following problems arise on Trixie, but not on Bookworm.
(1) The choice of VNC does not persist across boots. I have to log in with SSH and manually re-enable VNC Server after every boot. Although I have selected 1920x1080 as the VNC resolution, the VNC screen remains much lower resolution. I have "video=HDMI-A-1:1920x1080M@60D" in /boot/firmware/cmdline.txt.
(2) Control Centre does not work. It starts with "Loading Configuration" then no window appears. The same is true of Desktop Preferences. There are no relevant messages in the journal. Do these preference apps work only with WayVNC?
