Hello,
Novice Pi user here!
I'm Running into an issue when i try to access data on external HD's, the system is freezing/crashing when trying to copy or scan files (to KODI library).
My set up is as follows:
Raspberry Pi 5 16GB [ model B rev 1.1 ]
Raspberry Pi SSD 1TB
Mounted with a PCIe to M.2 NVME 2230/2242 (N08) + Armor lite V5 cooler
Inside a 'GeeekPi Retro Game5Pi case' (Nes) PRODUCT LINK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DL5PGDNJ? ... title&th=1
Raspberry Pi 27w usb-c power supply
An 8 port powered usb hub -
RSHTECH 10Gbps Powered USB C Hub, 8-Port Aluminum USB3 Extension Hub Splitter with 6 USB 3.1/3.2 Gen2 Ports & SD/TF Card Readers, 3.3ft Data Cable and 24W 12V/2A Power Adapter (RSH-A107D) - PRODUCT LINK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BJJJ73L9? ... itle&th=1
2x Adata HD710 Pro 5TB Portable HD formatted in NTFS (5V power consumption i believe)
Rasberry Pi OS [Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm)]
-
All I've done is built the system, installed the OS and from there I've installed KODI and attempted 2 things:
#1 To Scan my library from the 2 HD's to KODI
#2 To copy 4-5GB folder from 1 of the HD's to the RPi desktop (just 1 HD connected)
- In both cases the process has frozen/crashed the RPi and I've had to power off to kill the process.
after a little bit of searching i came to the conclusion that it may be a power issue so i bought the powered usb hub, tried again and produced the same outcome.
I cant figure out what the issue is, I'm hoping its not a file format issue.. perhaps the usb hub is not producing enough power still?
I don't have any experience with RPiOS or Linux so I'm very new and unfamiliar with using the commands/logs to route out the cause etc.
From what i can tell the HD'S shouldn't need mounting (a process i probably don't fully understand) and the RPi5 should be able to read/write NTFS now so this is why I'm assuming its still a power issue.
Obviously, I could very well be wrong.
I'm hoping this is a obvious fix to someone with experience, any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
i have seen similar troubleshooting requests but they seem to remain unresolved so forgive me if I've overlooked the answer somewhere on the forum.
Thanks
