Hi All,
I'm looking to setup Solar Assist at my parents property, I will have a desktop running as a server for Home Assistant and any other vm's as needed. Due to not being close to the property,
Ideally looking for the PI side to just work- ie little or no "moving" parts. I will have access to the desktop remotely so can administrate from my place for anything on that end, but difficult to do anything physically on the PI outside of setting a smart plug to power cycle.
SA only runs on PI's (IE not as a vm), so I've got a PI4b to run it on, but I want to set it up so there is no SD card on the PI (I've had lots of failed cards over time so looking at PXE/netboot or similar).
Please can someone confirm if I've understood the tech/steps correctly? (never done PXE/netboot before so happy to test/setup at my own place, before I deploy)
On Server (say Raspbian OS) I host the PXE server
On the RPI I setup SA on the SD Card, configure as needed.
Then Image the PI SD Card onto PXE server
Update PI4 to configure to boot from PXE server
remove SD card
PI should now boot, and then write data to image on PXE server?
Or does the PXE server only serve up the boot image and after that I would need to setup a network share of some description to store my actual data?
