Troubleshooting • Server does not have the DPMS Extension for turning off monitor on screen lock

I saw the other posts on this forum related to this topic. It didn't help. This is for Linux raspberrypi 6.6.51+rpt-rpi-v7 #1 SMP Raspbian 1:6.6.51-1+rpt3 (2024-10-08) armv7l GNU/Linux on a Raspberry Pi 3B. It's a fresh install of the OS.

The problem:
I enabled the lockscreen button in the start menu by using /usr/bin/dm-tool lock, but once the screen is locked, the monitor stays on. I want the monitor to go blank after few seconds or immediately and then the monitor only should enter a power saving mode. Also, if I do not use the keyboard or mouse for 5 minutes when the screen is not locked, the monitor should enter a power saving mode and go blank. However, if I am watching a video in fullscreen mode (or maybe even not fullscreen, via VLC or Youtube or any similar video player), the screen should not go blank.

What I tried:
* Went to Preferences > Raspberry Pi Configuration > Display, and switched on Screen blanking and rebooted.
* Tried various xset dpms options and xset q, but it shows the errors server does not have extension for +dpms option and Server does not have the DPMS Extension.
* Installed sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-vesa xserver-xorg-video-fbdev unclutter, but still no luck.
* Tried installing xscreensaver, but I get this error: E: Unable to locate package xscreensver, so it means I didn't install it and obviously can't uninstall it since it was never installed.
* Tried installing tvservice, but got this error E: Unable to locate package tvservice.
* Added hdmi_blanking=1 at the end of /boot/firmware/config.txt and rebooted but no use.

My request:
* Could you please show me how to ensure that the monitor goes blank after a set period of time? During screen lock and even if the screen is not locked. Currently the screen does not go blank even if the screen is not locked and even when screen blanking is switched on, so how do I know the screen blanking setting works?
* Instead of making users go through complex workarounds, could the Raspberry Pi OS maintainers please provide the options for monitor switching off and lockscreen as simple options that can be enabled/disabled via a GUI, and where we can easily set the timeout values for such functionality via the GUI itself? So many people are asking these questions online and existing answers aren't solving the issue. It would really help if you add this to your TODO list.
