Troubleshooting • AHT21 issues, I2c detect not registering

This came up for me before with my primary Pi unit, and because I didn't want to keep rebooting it and playing too much with the services, I picked up another to toy with. Unfortunately, I'm running into the same issue.
I've got some temp/humidity sensors -- both DHT21s and AHT21s, but the AHT is what I'm primarily trying to use, so I'll focus on that.
These ones, in case in matters.

It's a simple wiring job. Power, ground, SDA, SCL. And I cannot get it to register right on the PI. Using Bookwyrm, I've installed the Adafruit libraries, and when I run the i2cdetect -y 1, I get a fat array of zeros. I have a Sunfounder little tray with a breadboard and an extension board connected to it; I've run it directly from the pin rows, I've done it the way I prefer in my head -- running a lead down to another row and them up to the board. I've disconnected the extension board and run it straight from the GPIO pins on the Pi 5 itself. I've used a multimeter to verify that power is flowing. I've swapped out the wires, I've tried other sensors, and they just don't seem to want to show up in i2cdetect.
I'm hoping someone can help me through this.
