RPI Connect has been a great plug and play solution for my home network. In a few seconds I can launch the provided web-based terminal emulator in Firefox and start issuing commands to my Pi remotely, from anywhere in the world, from any device I have. Amazing. I have a few questions on how I can further my usage of rpi-connect.
I am setting up a web server using Raspberry Pi OS Lite on an original Raspberry Pi Model B with rpi-connect-lite installed. Previously I was running my web server on an old Sony laptop using Tailscale for networking. It was plug and play and worked well - my goal of using my iPhone to access my express.js web apps was achieved with minimal effort. So, my project is to replace the laptop with the Pi and replace Tailscale with Raspberry Pi Connect.
The snag I got was actually performing SSH directly and not through the Raspberry Pi Connect web-based terminal emulator. How can I get the right IP address to SSH in to? And once I get that IP address, I can also point my Firefox to localhost:3000 and see my express.js web apps, right?
There's some piece I'm missing that I need to find out... What I'm assuming is that for this project to work, I would actually need to run Raspberry Pi Connect on my client devices (laptop, cell phone) -- not just my server device (raspberry pi model b). Is this the correct assumption? Would it make more sense for me to use Tailscale in that case?
Thanks in advance! BTW, I would be more than welcome to anyone correcting my terminology here. Networking has been so hard for me to grasp honestly. Buying equipment and trying it out has been the most conducive to learning! And speaking with others of course![Smile :)]()
