Troubleshooting • Backup restore failure

I have been successfully using Win32 disk imager to backup and save a pi image, and then I could use balena etcher to write that image back to an SD card, however now trying 2 different SD cards (both fine), the pi won't boot. Just the black screen with it ending with something about init image problem. Are there alternative methods to try ? This used to work great.
