Networking and servers • Windows machine unable to resolve IP address when connected to a Pi access point

I have a Raspberry Pi access point that act as a Wifi repeater. It is using hostapd and dnsmasq to achieve the functionality. This setup seems to work very well with Android phones and other Pi in my home. However when I tried to connect a Windows laptop, it cannot immediately connect to internet.

I have checked the wifi interface of my laptop, it managed to get a IP address provided by dnsmasq. On the Pi side, dnsmasq did show the log when my laptop connected to the access point. I can also ping 8.8.8.8 without issue from the laptop. Finally I tried to resolve a domain IP address using nslookup and it failed. When it indeed attempted to resolve the domain IP address via the Pi, somehow the request keep timeout according to nslookup output. The problem will resolve itself if I leave the laptop for about 5-10 minutes. Every time when the laptop goes to sleep and wake up, it will reconnect to the access point and require to wait for 5-10 minutes again before it can connect to the internet. This behavior can be repeated on my other Windows laptop so I'm thinking this has something to do with my software configuration. Both of the laptop can resolve domain IP address without issue when connected directly to my wifi router.

Did anyone encounter similar issue before? Is there any setting required for dnsmasq in order for it to work properly with Windows machine? It seems to affect only Windows machine after all my tests. Appreciate if you can point me to the correct direction. Thank you.
