Hi!
I'm from Sweden so I'm sorry for my English.
I have had two Raspberry Pi for a long time. Both 4B, one 4GB and one 8GB. The 4GB has been running a Control Program for about 15 years. I have changed the SD-card some time's during these 15 years, but no real problems. The 8GB I use mostly for programming (Python, C++ and Java). This last year I have also used Android Studio for making an App for my Control Program.
But two weeks ago I bought two new Raspberry Pi 4B 4GB and 5 new SD-card. I started to load the Raspberry OS using the PiImager on my 8GB Pi. The loading went well but when I put it in one of the new 4GB it did not boot....
That was over one week ago and since then I have been trying in 1000 ways to get it to boot. I have followed all suggestions and advice I can find in these Forum and over the whole Internet. But no luck....
Some things I have done:
The last thing before I gave up and started this forum question was that I got 5 new 32GB SD card. But the result is the same, no full boot.
I can try to describe the boot (I think the order is like this, but I'm not 100% sure):
1. The red LED is on after I plug in the 5V 3A power supply.
2. The green LED starts to blink and some times stay on constant for 1 or two seconds.
3. After A short time the Rainbow comes and go away.
4. After some more time the Welcome message comes.
5. The green LED blinks for a while and then turns OFF and NEVER turn ON again....![Sad :(]()
I have loaded the different SD-cards from both of my "old" rasp and a Linux Mint PC. I have also checked the SD cards in many different ways and tested there R/W performance. Everything is OK. All SD-cards work fully OK in all ways as normally SD-cards, BUT THEY CAN'T MANAGE THE RASPBERRY BOOT.
I would very much appraise any suggestions about what I shall do to get the booting to work.
One very concrete question: There are two text files in rootfs/boot (cmdline.txt and config.txt), they both have the text: "The file you are looking for has moved to /boot/firmware/cmdline.txt" (but with the file cmdline.txt in one and config.txt in the other). But the folder "firmware" is totally empty in newly loaded SD-card. Shall it bee like that???
if I check my "old" two SD cards which are in my "old" Raspberry's then there are a lot of files in "firmware". And booth the files are there with text in them to.....
I'm soon 74 year and has been having computers both as hobby and in my engineer work since, i think 1975, when I got a SWTPC and started to write programs in Assembler and building hardware to the SWTPC.....
But now maybe I'm doing some stupid faults, but very consequent, so I get the same problem all the time....????
