Troubleshooting • Raspberry Pi 5 Temperature Troubleshooting

I've been experiencing a weird issue with my Pi 5 8 GB for a while now, where it would intermittently shut everything off, sometimes for hours on end, and then automatically start things up again. When the Pi drops, I loose everything (docker containers/SSH), but link/activity lights stay on but I cant access anything on it.

I have the Active Cooler on the Pi, plus the official SSD Hat with a 128GB SSD. I've narrowed it down to temperature related, and by googling, my Active Cooler does seem to be configured correctly as the fan is constantly running (as it hovers around the 50 degree mark). When I had it in my rack (in exactly the same place as my previous Pi 4 where I had no issues at all), it was shutting down more often, but now I've moved it, it is a bit more stable.

Within the last few minutes, the Pi CPU got to 59 degrees before shutting itself off. I'm guessing this isn't normal for a Pi 5 as thermal throttling should kick in before it shuts itself off? If I'm not mistaken, thermal throttling should happen around 80 degrees.

Have I got a dud Pi or is there something else I'm missing? What is the warranty period with Pi 5's?
